Due to the circumstances which I made this resolution, I want it to be recorded permanently, so that when I get to the end of the year, I can be like, “yeah, I did that”. Anyway, I pledge to meet at least 15 people who I can call friends in the New Year. Anyone else who wants to drop their resolution in here is welcome to do so.

The best 2016 car so far, for your viewing pleasure.

The best way to do that is always plan to arrive a fair bit early. Then, worst case, you arrive on time.

Get to the root of the problem with your classes, do you need to study more, maybe ask more questions or attend office hours, or do you have an attendance problem? (you don’t actually have to answer, these are questions to help both you and me, because I’m doing poorly in classes)

On the car front, just go out and do it. Find something you know you’re going to like for a long time and don’t listen to what anyone else says (Unless it’s something that will break a lot, those are no fun) That why I got a Miata and put up with hairdresser jokes at my high school. I loved the car so much that I didn't care what anyone else thought of it.

That sounds expensive, but fun. You should save up some money and come to the Indy 500 with me. Even if it’s in 2 or 3 years, you can do it. It’s great fun, and you seem like a cool guy.

Hey man, you can do it if you just lock down and go. There’s nothing that can stop you. Just remember school is number 1, then LS swap. Also, it helps to set specific goals like, average an 80% in school, so you should try that.

It’s cheaper than flying within Canada, so I’ll just dip down into the states for the trip out. Besides, it’s one hell of an experience!

1. Get in shape. I actually exercise quite a bit for work, but my diet sucks and soda help keep the pounds on. So most importantly stop drinking sodas, since I’ve done that before alone, and lost nearly 50 lbs.

2. Make new friends, and be more sociable overall. I’ve been here in a new place with a fresh start for 6 months, and haven’t really met anybody except at work.

3. GET BACK IN SCHOOL. I’ve only worked my job for three months, and I’m feeling trapped. It pays well enough for someone with no degree, the benefits are pretty great, but I have nowhere to go from here there. I want to start a career that I enjoy, at least before I’m 25.

4. Be less of a dick. While I think things are going shitty and like to take it out on others, I need to realize others have a lot worse shit going on. I do have a decent job, food on the table, reliable transportation that is pretty damn cheap to keep going(even though it needs about 500 in work right now), a roof over my head, and I do have some great friends, just not here, so I don’t really have much to complain about.

5. Get a cheap, fun car that I can track and autocross. I want to be more active in the automotive community.

So I’ve got more of list of resolutions.

Man, even though the race is kinda boring, there is something about seeing a pack of cars going 200+mph that is just mind-bending. I went to one for the first time last year and it was so great. Highly recommended.

Well this will be my third time back to the same college. I just gotta study more and hit the books more.

The car front is a little more complicated then that because technically I don’t own my current car, my parents do. I want more racecar and they are lie no take the GT car you have and live with it for a while, but the longer I live with it the more miles it gets and the less it’s worth.

My parents own my BMW, and I've tried to convince them to let me get out of it since it's a great cars, but it's also a 200k mile BMW. So I know where you're coming from. I'd say find a good middle ground, something between what your want and what they want for you. Compromise makes both parties feel like they've contributed to the overall result.

Thanks! I plan on starting back to school in August though, because I will qualify for in state tuition then. Also, I’d rather not leave a job after just 3 months. Done it before, and it can make finding another a PITA. Plus, it gives me time to save money, and completely decide on what to do.

Whatever you do, do the best you can. And I’m glad you want to make friends, because friends are the most powerful asset a person can have in the world of business. You have a road map for what you want to do yet? Preparation/planning makes things go so much smoother.

While I haven’t got to do it many times, I’ve always been fascinated by welding and have enjoyed doing it. So the plan is to go to the local trade school. It’s cheaper, and since I currently make the same/work with a bunch of Geologists, I know a 4 year degree isn’t always the safest bet. Plus, I suck at big written tests.

That’s the thing I’m offering up my money I earned and my stocks and they are still like no. I mean it’s only about 3k but still! (Most is stocks) Also the depreciation on a Mustang GT is most unkind and a BOSS 302/GT500 can still fulfill DD needs and duties of a college student.

Kinja'd!!!1

Great! Welders make a ton of money, and if you enjoy doing it, all the better! I'd recommend TIG, because it pays the most by far. It's unfortunate that you aren't good at tests, I was gifted with an eidetic memory, so tests are the easiest thing for me. But I'm sure if you work hard, you'll have no trouble at all getting a welding cert and getting a good job!

I hate to take sides, but of your parents are contributing the largest share, they have control. Handle it like an investment, if you can get 51%, tell them that you’d like them to help you with 49% of the car. Then set up a contractual agreement with them (a simple contract that they can file away will do) that you will pay back the 49% at X per month.

Show them you are financially responsible and savvy and I’m sure you can get your car!

Kinja'd!!! Cherry_man1 > Sam
12/31/2015 at 02:13

Kinja'd!!!0

Well I am fiscally responsible they know that, but when it comes to school they want me to do more school then working. It’s always a hard thing to balance because was once working like 36 hours a week and grades slipped quickly because long night working as a busser in a dine in theater is terrible on ones health.

Also they are more worried I’ll drive too much instead of studying but, this semester it very, very, different for me. I got more to lose this time.

Kinja'd!!! Sam > TheD0k_2many toys 2little time

Kinja'd!!!0

You can do it if you put your mind to it. Put together a nice road map that plans out your build and how much work will go into each step. Then you can get an idea of steps where you may need help or where you may need special equipment.

I was in your same position last semester, I just put my last for a Fiat Abarth on the back burner and played the hand I was dealt.

I’d say school always comes first, for sure. There’s a reason someone like Battery Tender Unnecessary can afford his collection, he worked hard to become a dentist (or some sort of mouth doctor). I’m sure he wasn’t driving his dream car through college, but now he is.

And who knows, if you make the grades, they may surprise you.

Get less fat. Cliché, I know, but I was always a thin guy and could stand to lose a good 10 pounds of fat (and replace it with muscle).

Kinja'd!!! Sam > Sneaky Pete
12/31/2015 at 02:38

Kinja'd!!!1

You and me both. I went from an unhealthy 130 pounds at the beginning of high school to an unhealthy 185 now. I’m hoping to get a little bit fitter. I think eating healthier is one of the biggest things we can do for ourselves. I eat way too much junk. We can do it if we commit!

Kinja'd!!! Sneaky Pete > Sam
12/31/2015 at 02:44

Kinja'd!!!0

Same story, only I was even thinner in high school I’m almost 6’ tall and think 180-185 is a good target weight, but that needs to be more muscle and less fat.

The fix is simple - eat healthier and exercise more. Problem is the motivation and discipline.

Kinja'd!!! Sam > Sneaky Pete
12/31/2015 at 02:49

Kinja'd!!!1

I’m always poor with timing. I started biking for the first in October. In Indiana. I think if we both commit to dropping 10 pounds over the whole year, we can definitely feel better in 2016. Avoid gyms, though, those places are hell after New Years.

Kinja'd!!!0

Well the Boss 302, while a dream car, is not my end goal. My end goal is either a R8 V10 or Lamborghini Gallardo.

The Boss is something I want as a DD because of its handling and rarity of it. It's something attainable in the now. When it may not be in the future.

If your parents have the money, put together a projection of the future increase in value (hopefully you payed attention in econ class). People love visuals, and if they see that you can drive the car AND have it appreciate, they'll love it.

You keep fighting that depression and anxiety, I’m rooting for you, but please don’t measure your success in life in monetary terms. Being “better off” does not equal “being better”.

I mention this because I’ve seen people fall into this trap.

I need to lose weight as well. Having kids can be hard on dads, too, and I eat too much! With 3, I’ve built up a bit too much in reserves...

Also, I want learn to ollie on my skateboard.

Beyond that, I’m not sure... I have projects that I will continue to work on at my slow pace.

Kinja'd!!! Sam > BJ

Kinja'd!!!0

Set yourself a goal! 10 pounds is a good start, then you can keep the ball rolling from there.

Doing an ollie on a skateboard is... not something I know how to do. Nor really have much advice on.

And pick one project that you can commit to completing. That way, you have the satisfaction of meeting your goal!

I really only need to lose about 15 lbs so I’m going to go about it the same way as I’ve done in the past: eat less and cut out the sodas - I don’t need those at all.

Good call. I’ve already switched to water with those little flavor packets, and eventually I’ll push for just water. Mostly I need to get healthier snack foods, like fruits, vegetables, nuts, and the like. Good luck man, you can get there if you commit!

Not so much a resolution I guess, but I plan to find a different job. I’ve come to the realization that working as a claims adjuster is just not for me. I’m tired of working almost 12 hours almost every day of the week and going home feeling I haven’t accomplished enough. When it start having an effect on home life, you know it’s time to move on and find something else before it’s too late.
